On September 2nd, we organized a book exchange event with Wieke Vink at the oh so amazing and fabulous bookstore Savannah Bay in Utrecht that was established during the feminist movement in the Netherlands in the 1970s. Today, the bookstore has expanded its audience to include literature for all genders, backgrounds, ethnicities and colours. Indeed, it was a perfect match with Brown, Brainy & Beautiful.
What is a Book Exchange?
Well, it is pretty self-explanatory. Essentially, participants engage in discussion about the books they have brought and why they would like to share it with another person. Hence, it is all about the exchange of knowledge! All participants at this event had different upbringings, nationalities and overall backgrounds. Nevertheless, what brought us together was our shared love for books. This special connection is something to hold onto especially given the fact how fast and complex life can sometimes be. Read more – fight less, right?!
Some of the books shared that evening were:
- Thinking fast and slow / Daniel Kahneman
- Socrates / C. C. W. Taylor
- The Happy Project / Gretchen Rubin
- Summer Crossing / Truman Capote
In the future, we hope to expand the next event to include more people. Click here to hear about the event from the participants. In sum, it was a food for thought evening in a great learning environment. Thanks again to Savannah Bay – until soon again!
